You may be a very good newsletter publisher in your niche and you may publish only great content ... Everything is in vain if your emails don't arrive at the intended recipients. Content is king indeed, but you must make your best effors to deliver it properly to the subscribers who are waiting for it.
Discover "Six Golden Rules" that will help you increase the deliverability rate of your email newsletter.
1. Use the double opt-in subscription method.
Decide once and forever: do you want quantity or quality? Single opt in method will help you build your list faster, but the quality of your list and the deliverability rate of your emails will be lower.
Human beings are not perfect and you will see it when they opt-in. Some people will mistype their email address. If you're lucky, you will send your emails to no one. However, if the email address that was mistyped belongs to someone ... you've just became a spammer. The consequences may be very unpleasant if you're reported. The practice shown that no one will waste his time to send you a notification. Your IP and/or domain name will be blacklisted and you'll find out too late - only when your email deliverability rate will be deep deep down.
2. Brand your name and/or your email newsletter's name.
If the subscriber recognizes quickly your emails, you don't risk to be considered a spammer. I can hear you saying, "I'm not a spammer, the subscriber opted in for my newsletter." Right, but if the subscriber doesn't remember your name or your newsletter's name and clicks on "Report Spam" button, then you have a problem. No one will ask you whether that subscriber opted in or not.
3. Learn what are the words and expressions that you should avoid in your emails.
Some common words and expressions are penalized by spam filters. Discover what are these spam filter triggers and stop using them. Use synonyms instead and never become an amateur publisher by misspelling these words.
4. Be sure that the links from your emails are not from domain names that are blacklisted.
Don't wrongly assume that the blacklists contain only domain names used by spammers and take very much care with affiliate links. If one affiliate is sending spam and is reported, then the domain name may become blacklisted. In such case, even if you're an honest Internet citizen, your own affiliate link will cause you spam filters problems.
5. Once an email address bounces, remove it from your mailing list immediatelly.
Unless suddenly a lot of email addresses bounce, remove any email address that don't accept your emails. In case many email addresses bounce, check carefully if there is a problem at your end.
Complying with this simple rule will help you maintaining a good reputation for the IP from where the emails are sent. A good IP reputation is an important factor for big ISPs and benefits of a better inbox delivery.
6. Make the unsubscribe process easy.
Some publishers are afraid of unsubscribes and make the process difficult. This is a very big mistake. If the subscriber decides to unsubscribe, let him unsubscribe immediatelly. Otherwise, it's not difficult for that subscriber to click on the button "Report Spam". The more people click on such buttons, the poor your IP reputation will be.
